Praising God for This Precious & Holy Resurrection Week!

Thank You Jesus for using my heart & hands to pour out on paper Your LOVE FOR US ALL!

“Apologies From a Repentant Christian: Is Jesus Christ Real? by Donna L. Young is the autobiography of a modern day Christian who, like many of us, at one time or another wondered if Jesus Christ really exists. Written as an admission of her sins and at the same time seeking God's forgiveness, the book is a raw, sincere and very personal account of the author's life and faith. Born and raised a Christian, Donna soon realizes that her arrogance has gotten in the way of true repentance and that her being a Christian is like living a life of masquerade. Will she find the answer to this most complex and difficult question of faith?

Donna L. Young's Apologies From a Repentant Christian: Is Jesus Christ Real? goes directly to the point and it is an interesting read. In nineteen chapters of beautiful prose, we learn about her life journey, her trials, and struggles. Speaking directly to her readers about her vulnerability, regrets, realizations, transformation and finally growth in her faith and life in general, her sincerity shines through. The result is an inspiring story that will make readers examine their own lives and beliefs. Some chapters of Apologies From a Repentant Christian contain beautiful lyrics to a number of hymns and these are both enlightening and inspiring. As such, I highly recommend this book to readers, both Christian and non-Christian alike. And as we put down the book and continue with our own journeys, face our own trials and struggles, it is a good idea to think of Donna's experience and draw strength from it.”

The Lord's Supper Matthew 26:17-30 NKJV

The Last Supper

Matthew 26:17-30 (NKJV)

Jesus Celebrates Passover with His Disciples

17 Now on the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?”
18 And He said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples.”’”
19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover.
20 When evening had come, He sat down with the twelve. 21 Now as they were eating, He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me.”
22 And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and each of them began to say to Him, “Lord, is it I?”
23 He answered and said, “He who dipped his hand with Me in the dish will betray Me. 24 The Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.”
25 Then Judas, who was betraying Him, answered and said, “Rabbi, is it I?”
He said to him, “You have said it.”

Jesus Institutes the Lord’s Supper

26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed[a] and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new[b] covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Footnotes:

  1. Matthew 26:26 M-Text reads gave thanks for.
  2. Matthew 26:28 NU-Text omits new.

Saying "Grace" at Supper, Luke 22:14-23

Luke 22:14-23  "When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him. Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you. But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table. And truly the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!” Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing."(NKJV)

Grace
One recent afternoon, while sitting at my writing station, I heard an unfamiliar noise. I looked up from my computer screen and noticed that our rescued dog named "Grace" had stolen my son's communion cup from our kitchen table. Oh how she had tried to to keep the Lord's commandment, "Do this in memory of me." I began to chuckle.

The moment took me back to a place and time long ago. I flashed back to those mealtimes during my childhood when my sister and I said grace as quick as possible. Back then, I hadn't learned the significance of that holy gesture. So, I wasn't concerned about giving thanks to God. The faster I prayed that prayer, the faster we ate. As a result, empty words simply rolled off my tongue without much thought.
Each night, our family repeated the same mealtime prayer. We said, "Bless us Oh Lord, for these thy gifts which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord, Amen." My sister and I took pride in how quickly we could say those words and still make sense. What a meaningless gesture!
Now, as I thought back to that time in my life, I began to thank God for the changes in me. "Thank You Lord, for that night back in 2008 that saved my life!" http://dlouyoung.blogspot.com/p/my-personal-testimony.html Thank You for helping me parent my son over the past few years. Thank You for the sweet sound of his voice as he gives thanks to You for the blessings he is about to receive. Thank You for the unimaginable joy You have brought to our family!"
Next, I thanked God for teaching me His Word and helping me to understand the significance of that final supper between Jesus Christ and His disciples. I looked up to see a tapestry of Leonardo da Vinci's version of the Last Supper hanging on the wall above our kitchen table.  I am moved with gratitude. I glance over at our family pet once again and smile.
