Have Faith, God can Calm any Storm! Mark 4:35-41

Hurricane Sandy
Had anyone told me four years ago, that I would now be experiencing joy and peace because I had been beaten, arrested and charged with a felony, I would have thought they were crazy. Yet, because of that storm in my life, I found God. And it was because of the storm that I realized just how much I need Him. Years later, I can say that the dreadful night of my arrest was in fact a blessing in disguise. God had a plan for my life! It took time, but God graciously healed my broken heart and now I know true joy.

These days, when I see a person suffering from deep emotional pain, I am reminded of my own personal journey. I remember the moment when confusion and emptiness filled my heart. Then, I reflect upon where I am today. Instantly, I feel an overwhelming need to reach out to those in pain and say, "The Lord always gives the ones He loves great responsibility. He hasn't abandoned you! God is right there beside you, whispering to your broken heart. Listen carefully and you will hear Him say, 'Do not be afraid. I am with you always!' "

Today, I prayed a prayer for those left broken-hearted from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. With all my heart, I prayed that Jesus Christ would calm the upcoming East Coast storm before it even hit the shore. I also prayed that God would show each and every person a sign of His great mercy and love. Perhaps then, they too will know that the one true, living God is with them always, even through the storm!

Mark 4:35-41 (NKJV)
"On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
