This morning while making a cup of
coffee, I received a visit by another park resident. He had come over to
collect his daily donation of recycled cans. Instantly, he struck up a
conversation regarding the rattlesnake issue we're currently facing in the
trailer park. I responded, "With all the boxes, tarps and other stuff
we've placed under our trailer, we've created the perfect home for a snake. I
should probably clean that out today." Then, immediately after he left, I
walked to the other side of our trailer. Time to empty our trailer’s septic
tank. A quick pull of a few levers. I bent down. Instantly, I heard a sound
come out from the 20ft outdoor mat only a foot from where I stood. My heart
began to race while the hairs on the back of my neck raised up. The sound of a
tiny baby rattle brushing up against the mat was unmistakable! Frightened, I
instantly blurted out a cuss word and backed away.
As the adrenaline slowly subsided, I
felt a calm come over me. Soon, embarrassment caused my face to blush. I looked
around wondering if anyone had heard me cuss. I was surprised that something so
little could cause me to return to my old habit. Yet, I felt grateful that I
was safe. “I want to be like Your servant Paul, LORD. Yet, I could do without
the snake bite.” I thought to myself.
“Thank You, Lord, for the warning! I am sorry there is
still ugliness in my heart. Please LORD; won’t You make the snake disappear?”
Then, I smiled as I thought. “And, my ugliness can go too."
Through a quick phone conversation, I
reached out to a few others for prayer. Then, I drove towards the park office
in hopes of finding help. Two park service men happily rushed to my aid. Father,
You must have answered our prayers. By the time the men pulled the tarp and
boxes from under the trailer, the snake had slithered away. Thank You, Lord, You are always Mighty to save!
