Apologies From a Repentant Christian: Is Jesus Christ Real? is a non-fiction book by Donna L. Young, written in the first-person narrative. This book is for anyone struggling with questions about what the Bible offers when pain, suffering, despair, and confusion overshadow the feeling of grace in one’s life. It’s the first book in the Apologies From a Repentant Christian series. This book tells of a repentant Christian who got a brand-new identity in Christ after living a life that’s pleasing to God.

On October 20, 2008, the author had a personal encounter with Christ while in a jail holding cell based on a false accusation by her husband. While in the holding cell, an inmate and a jail officer ministered to her; they gave her assurance and comfort. After her bail was granted, Donna felt the need to change her bad attitude, and to seek forgiveness from everyone she offended in the past. She realized how ungrateful she had been to God, and how her behavior had affected the people around her negatively.

Despite being raised in a Catholic Church, Donna was never connected with God. She described herself as a proud and arrogant woman before her encounter with Christ in the holding cell. It never occurred to her how far sin had separated her from God. She had the urge to confess her sins to God after learning about its value through Proverbs 28:13, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them, will have mercy.” However, Donna apologized not only to God,but she also sought apologies from everyone including her parents, her son, her stepson, and her sister.

In chapter four, From Undeserving to Grateful: My Apology to God, the author compared Christ’s final moments to the incident of October 20, which she described as the worst day of her life. She realized God was very good to her. In her comparison, she noted that Jesus was arrested at night and was abandoned by his disciples. She was also arrested at night, but she had her family and friends to console her. Jesus suffered accusations from many people, but it was her husband who stood against her. While she was shown compassion by a jail officer, Jesus suffered humiliation from people who spat on him. Donna also mentioned that she was offered blankets while Jesus had his garment torn up by soldiers. This chapter shows that God's ever ready to show his mercies, even when we don’t deserve His grace.

Apologies From a Repentant Christian gives an insight into the transformation of Donna into a humble and God-fearing Christian through the redeeming power of Christ. The author also encouraged people not to let sin have a hold on them, thereby confessing to God and asking for His mercies. This book is inspirational with relatable themes like faith, forgiveness, humility, and happiness. In a friendly tone, Donna explained the importance of confessing sins and seeking forgiveness. It brings peace of mind and draws one closer to God.

Donna wrote this book to talk about her freedom from sin. She also used this book to tell the world that Christ is real. As clearly written in the title, this book is mostly recommended to Christians. However, in all sincerity, anyone can enjoy this book. A non-Christian can practice the act of confessing sins to friends or family members. The purpose of this is to have a guilt-free mind. I liked how the author included a Bible passage at the beginning of each chapter.

This is a technically solid book with well-organized chapters. However, I noticed a couple of missing commas and a few punctuation errors. There were no grammatical errors in this book. I also found the editing to be fairly done; many spacing errors deterred the flow of the book. Apologies From a Repentant Christian deserves a perfect rating, but I’ll settle for a 3 out of 4 stars rating. The language the author used is simple and easy to comprehend. Whether or not you’re a Christian, the concept of forgiveness applies to everybody – it’s delightful.

The Red Balloon Mystery Continues~"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock..." Revelation 3:20 KJV

Dear Fellow Travelers,
The Red Balloon Mystery Continues

I’ve just returned from my first attempt in reaching out to a prospective owner of the floating red balloons.  Just as I had prayed, God provided the encouragement I needed to resume my role as His servant. Despite those nervous butterflies that were fluttering about in my stomach, I was ready to carry on in sharing the hope I had found in Jesus Christ.

So, I conducted a quick online search and located an address of a woman with the same name as the one found inside the greeting card. Directions to the address led me to a quiet, classic American neighborhood where gardens filled with an assortment of Spring flowers were in full bloom. I could almost picture the butterflies in my stomach fluttering with joy upon seeing the Marigolds in all their glory.

I grabbed the greeting card along with my homemade gift and confidently walked through the white picket fence, straight to the doorstep of the stranger’s home. Then I rang the bell. “Ding dang dong.” I waited for a reply. From outside the door, I could hear the footsteps of a person moving slowly towards me. I could also hear the shaking sounds of dog collar.  Then, suddenly all the noises from behind the door stopped. Therefore, I rang the bell as second time. Still, no reply.  I started to wonder, “Could someone be watching me from inside the home?” Then, I smiled brightly as I held my fragrant homemade bouquet of yellow-orange roses a little tighter. “If someone is indeed peering through the beveled glass, perhaps these flowers might make her feel more comfortable.” I thought to myself.

A few more moments went by with the only sound coming from the sidewalk behind me. A couple, perhaps man and wife, were strolling down the street together, chatting with one another. Soon, it became apparent that it was time to walk away. Before leaving, I placed the flower bouquet upon the cold doorstep beside the “Welcome” rug. Next to the flowers, I left a message of my own. On a small piece of paper with harmonizing flowers, I simply wrote, “Hello. My name is Donna Young and I am looking for a woman named _______. If you know her, could you please contact me at…”

As I returned to my car, I surmised that this story’s ending had not yet arrived.  “Was the woman behind the door actually the owner of the red balloons?” I wondered. “And if so, would she seize the opportunity to finally open the door to of her heart to Christ's restorative healing and hope?"

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES…

July 12, 2012 My Personal Journal Entry: Falling for Satan's schemes. Lead me not into Temptation.

Righteous are You, LORD when I come to You, You let me speak with You about Your ways. Another day has come and gone. Unlike those days when I lay my head down feeling satisfied and victorious, tonight, my burdened heart won’t let me sleep. Instead, I am still awake, during these early morning hours, completely lost in thought.
Sovereign LORD, why do You allow the Prince of Darkness to use life’s circumstances to tempt me? Satan comes on so strong. He rushes me, frightens me and confuses me. And, I am so weak. I fall for his ways. Oh LORD, I feel that my behavior today has let You down. And, I am sorry.
Our trailer’s air conditioning unit simply couldn’t keep up with the rising outside temperature. The main circuit breaker box kept tripping. Travis and I were starting to swelter inside our little home.
Then, ants. Everywhere! To sit down meant they’d crawl on you. The determined small insects had even taken over improbable places. Inside the fridge, green grapes were freckled with those pesky ants while the interruption of electricity caused our food to begin to spoil. Meanwhile, Raid Ant Killer hovered in the motionless hot air.
Outside, the trailer park servicemen posted flyers warning of baby rattlesnakes. One had just been killed just two campsites away after the snake bit LeeRoy’s coworker’s dog on the nose. I began to wonder, “Which is more dangerous, keeping my son and rescued Chihuahuas inside with the heat and poisonous pesticide or taking our chances outside with the Rattlers?”
Despite all of this, I still had a job to do. Grocery shop for new dinner ingredients and wash the mounds of dirty laundry that were piling up. In between hanging foil over the windows and battling the fuse box, I tried my best to keep Travis and our small dogs cool while attempting my household chores.
Around mid-day, I finally finished the clothes. I began to put the clothes into each small space. That’s when I discovered the little bottle! Instantly, the father of lies began to whisper in my ear, “What happened to the smooth, hassle free, even romantic transition you waited patiently for? Maybe your friends and family were right. You shouldn’t have come here.” With the clothes basket still in my grasp, I sat back on the bed. Beads of sweat dripped into my eyes. Tired, hot and vulnerable, I slumped over and began to cry. Then, in instant, I felt my heart fill with self-righteous anger. So, I stood back upon my feet, cast my laundry basket to the side and impulsively called my husband at work. With a very discouraging tone, I condemned him for not seeking help. Amazingly, LeeRoy responded with grace. He remained calm and even seemed to be humbled by my call.

Within hours, I was left sorrowfully repenting for how I had acted. I began to pray, “Heavenly Father, I am sorry. I do believe that You are still at work in our lives.  Please help me to trust Your plan even when I can’t make sense of it. Please God, help me to remember that You deliberately chose LeeRoy to be my husband. Please help me to reverence him instead of seeing him as a threat.  Please, LORD, use my marriage to glorify Your holy name! I love You, Christ Jesus. Amen.”

PROs

  • 145! Woohoo!
  • Now I can eat anything I want so long as I stay under a certain amount of calories and carbs.

Then, my husband handed me a few pieces of a juicy cold tangerine that he brought home from my Father-in-law's yard..thank you Dad. The orange was sweet and satisfying! Who would have thought I'd ever put down an unfinished candybar?
CONs
  • Right now? None!

DEVIATIONS

  • None! I can eat whatever I want. Yeah!

So far, so good. See you tomorrow!

Daily Blog of the 3 Week Diet Plan, Brian Flatt ~By Donna L. Young ~DAY 9

Daily Blog of the 3 Week Diet Plan, Brian Flatt

~DAY 9~

Okay, so last night I was able to eat anything I wanted. I chose a McDonald's double Quarterpounder. No, this is not a McDonald's diet. But, for some reason, unknown to me, I keep craving fast food. Well, the result was complete nausea. If I could do last night's meal over, I would. I spent much of the night trying to keep the McDonald's down. I also experienced heartburn today along with an upset stomach. Well, at least I won't be craving fast food for awhile :)

As for today, I have stuck to the plan fairly well. The only exception is that I ate at 2, 5 and 8:00pm instead of 12, 3 and 6pm. And, I at a yogurt at the end of the day to alleviate the nausea.

PROs
  • Keeping the weight off so far, despite a huge fast food meal.
  • Eating such high fat meals is making me WANT to work out.

CONs
  • Today, I began the High FAT portion of the diet plan. I had been looking forward to this part, but, it feels like every artery in my chest is clogging with fat.
  • I also began taking omega 3 fish oil today. I think both the fish oil and the high content of fat are the reason I feel so nauseous.
  • I checked my blood pressure today at Rite Aid and it was VERY HIGH compared to normal.
  • And, I have heartburn for the first time today.
  • Still 146.8! I think I've hit another plateau.
DEVIATIONS

  • Worked out again instead of taking a day off in between workouts.
  • Added a yogurt to my day.
  • Have not been taking my daily brisk walk for 30 minutes. (I've only walked one day during the past 8 days).
That's all for now. See you tomorrow!

Daily Blog of the 3 Week Diet Plan, Brian Flatt ~By Donna L. Young ~DAY 8

Daily Blog of the 3 Week Diet Plan, Brian Flatt
By Donna L. Young ~DAY 8~

Today was day 8. I weighed the same amount as yesterday 146! Just seeing the number on the scale, I flashed back to those days on the Adkins diet when I had lost a bunch of weight quickly then suddenly plateaued. I learned then that eating broke the plateau. So, I am sure after today's total fast, the meal will tell my body that I am trying to starve it and get my metabolism started again. Well, at least that is what I hope.

PROs

  • Still happy about the number 146!
  • Looking forward to eating anything I want tonight @ 8:00pm

CONs

  • Fasting, when it isn't for an answer to prayer is REALLY NO FUN!

SO FAR SO GOOD! SEE YOU TOMORROW!

How I know that Jesus Christ is Real

My life seemed normal until a week prior to October 20, 2008.  For a about a week, I had been praying for God to use my life to bring others to Him. My husband of five years and I had grown apart. Many years of his unbelief, as well as, an addiction to prescription medication had severed my desire to bring him to Christ any longer.
I honestly thought that God would answer my prayer by sending me on another mission trip. The last trip I had taken was to New York in 2003. I missed being a servant to Him. But instead, on this date, my husband overdosed on prescription medication and physically hurt me. Prior to this night, my husband had never raised a hand to me. When I called the Sheriff’s department to report the incident, my husband put on his Navy uniform, greeted the deputies and lied about what happened. Consequently, I was charged with a felony and restrained from my home, belongings and more importantly, my children. My life was changed from that moment on. I finally acknowledged that Jesus is with me through my trials and that I can trust Him.
While hunched over in jail holding cell, Jesus spoke to me through another inmate. When she came in, she looked right at me and said in a slang drawl, “Girl, why you cryin,’ God’s with you,” and then started to sing old church hymns. I stopped crying and asked her for her name. She simply replied, “Its t.”
God was also in the Jail Supervisor, who put her hand on my shoulder and very softly said, “You are going to get through this.”  Further, I was offered blankets and told to call my mother by the tower watchman, as though I was a guest. I was released from jail only after a few hours. The Jail Supervisor and I noticed during my release, that she had neglected to take my cross necklace from me.
The compassion of strangers that I received while at my mother’s house for the duration of my restraining order, continued to remind me that I was not alone. The criminal attorney that I hired was well known by the judge and prosecuting attorney. He cut me a large break in his normal fees and got the charges dropped as quickly as possible. The doctor who examined my injuries treated me with compassion. Childhood friends from my home town went out of their way to show God’s mercy and even the grocery store clerk said something personal and encouraging that only God would have known to say.
I discovered hope and help in Jesus during this incident. I also notice huge changes in me. I could no longer boast about how I didn’t even have parking tickets on record. Many years of arrogance and self-righteousness erased quickly. I no longer had to be the center of attention. I learned to surrender to God’s will and I became humble.
Because of the violence, I did move out of our home to provide protection to my youngest child, but when I met with a divorce attorney, I had the overwhelming sense to not proceed. Consequently, I did not divorce my husband. Instead, I enrolled in school. As the Lord would have it, the program I entered was Seminary and the degree was a Masters Degree in Him.
I started to pray for my husband again. Amazingly, my husband sought the help of a counselor and after six years of never wanting anything to do with God; he began to go to church.
My husband has since, accepted Jesus into his life and has encouraged my recent baptism and graduation from seminary. He professes his faith daily to others and I have learned what it means to trust in God and to truly surrender. I also know that when we offer to bring others to Christ, God may answer in a way we never expected.
I have walked hand in hand with Jesus for almost 5 years now. And, because I have found such hope and peace,  I continually share my story with everyone I meet. I watch in amazement each time a neighbor, friend and family member accepts Jesus into their heart.
I know that God can work miracles, through us, if we let Him!!!  Today, I thank God for that trial. He changed my heart, my marriage and my life!

God's With You

I wondered how God might use me in reaching the heart of another today. I decided to take my youngest son and his friend to the pool. Within minutes of entering the pool, we heard a loud crash at the entrance of the park. A woman standing in the pool next to me began to scream, "He him them... He hit them!" Then a few minutes later, we learned that a truck driver had struck a lunch meal truck as it left the trailer park and that a woman had tragically lost her life in the accident.
For over an hour, I listened as spectators commented about the coroner's car, the traffic build up on the highway and the highway patrol car that circled around the pool parking lot where we swam. Surprisingly, I remained still and quietly prayed.

Then, finally I felt an urge to approach the scene of the accident. I felt a need to tell the truck driver that "God was with him." Perhaps, God knew that the man simply needed to hear that no matter how deep his personal gloom seemed at the moment, God had a plan. So, I asked my young son to remain in the park office while I walked up to the scene of the accident. By now, the coroner had come and gone. All that remained was the truck driver and several highway patrol officers. I immediately walked up to the first Highway Patrol car in my path and explained my intentions. The officer sweetly offered to approach the driver on my behalf to ask if he wanted prayer. While I waited for the officer to return, I looked down in the dirt below. Right away, I noticed a smashed up match box toy car. I picked the toy car up and gripped it tight in the palm of my hand while I prayed for the truck driver and the family of the woman who passed away. Soon the officer returned. "The man is feeling numb." The officer said. I shared my personal testimony with the officer and said, "Please tell the man that 'God's with him." The officer promised he would.
As I slowly walked back to the office to retrieve my son, a dove began to coo overhead. "Oh Lord, I pray that I've done your will today. Amen.

My New Cross Necklace. Finally worn with heart.

Most times when I share the signs of God's favor in my life, others respond by saying, "Wow!" Today, God had me saying, "Wow!"

For Mother's day, my husband surprised me with an expensive and very beautiful cross necklace. At first, I graciously accepted his thoughtful gift. But before the day's end, I humbly approached my husband and shared my feelings. "It's just too expensive LeeRoy. You know me, I would rather spend the money on purchasing bibles for others." My husband remained quiet.

The next day, immediately after church, my husband drove to the mall to return the cross necklace. Then, he drove to the Family Christian store and purchased a gift card. After a few hours, he returned home with a solemn look on his face. "What's wrong honey?" I inquired. "It's just the woman in the store had only been working there, I think less than a week. It was her first return and she looked so disappointed." I hugged my husband and replied, "Don't worry honey, I will go to Zales and share my testimony with the woman. I'm sure once she sees how humble I am, she will understand 'why' I couldn't accept such an extravagant gift."

A week later, I drove to the mall with our youngest son. I had planned to purchase a new dress to wear to a wedding. However once there, I shared my intentions with my son. "I would like to share my testimony with the woman in the jewelry store." Then, we walked to the jewelry store. I was quickly greeted by a sales woman. "Have you been helped?" She asked. "Oh, I am just waiting to speak to the sales woman who sold a cross necklace to my husband last week." I responded. "Was there something wrong with it?" She asked. "Oh no." I replied. Then, I immediately began to share my testimony with the woman. After I finished, the woman said, "Ma'am, I am sorry but there is no one here that meets the description of the sales woman you are referring to." Stunned, I called my husband. "Honey, what was the name of the jewelry store where you bought the necklace? And, could you describe the sales woman who sold and later returned the necklace for you?" My husband provided the same description. Meanwhile, my son was talking in my other ear and adamantly saying, "It was this store Mom. We stood right over there." Then, he pointed across the glass counter to the other side of the store.

I was still trying to understand the situation, when the woman softly said, "God must have place it on your husband's heart to buy that necklace for you." Was the gift from God? I began to wonder. Perhaps that's why the woman who sold it to my husband looked so disappointed when he returned it the next day. I decided to purchase the necklace. Humbly, I placed it around my neck and left the jewelry store.

A few hours later, I glanced at my beautiful cross charm again. I began to speak to God in my heart. "Lord, I just don't feel worthy to wear this charm. For so many years, I wore it while leading others away from You. What if I lead others away again?" Suddenly, several doves flew directly over my head.

Only a few hours later, I found myself excitedly explaining all that had happened earlier to another stranger. As I told her how I had acquired the necklace, I looked once again at my new cross. This time, I noticed the heart that surrounded the cross. I heard myself say out loud, "Before, I simply wore a cross charm. Now, I wear a cross with a heart."

My husband has since, accepted Jesus into his life and has encouraged my recent baptism and graduation from seminary. He professes his faith daily to others and I have learned what it means to trust in God and to truly surrender. I also know that when we offer to bring others to Christ, God may answer in a way we never expected.
I have walked hand in hand with Jesus for over 3 years now.

Salvation Mountain our Family's Valentine's Day gift from God!

John 3:16 NKJV

"For God so loved the World that He gave His only begotton Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

During this year’s Thanksgiving Day vacation, my husband surprised my young son and me with a trip to a monument called “Salvation Mountain.”  Through a coworker, he had learned that a believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ had spent much of his life creating a testament to express his love and admiration for God. I couldn’t wait to see the hand painted scripture on the side of a mountain. http://www.salvationmountain.us/.
We drove an hour to see the believer’s work. All the while, I held my bible in my lap and quietly praised God. I just knew that the Lord had a special day planned for our family.
Right away, our youngest son excitedly ran ahead and began to climb the side of the mountain. At one point, he stood directly above a sign that read, “No climbing!” So, I yelled out, “Come on down Son.” As our son climbed back down and returned to our side, I felt my husband place his hand in mine. I smiled and put my head on his shoulder and we all walked along together.
At one point, I noticed that we were all standing directly in front of a puffy paint version of the sinner’s prayer. I began to read the prayer out loud. Then, I shook my head in wonderment. God had saved our family from our past sinful ways. We had come so far!
Next, we slowly walked around the mountain together.

We took turns reading the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13). http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+6%3A9-13&version=NKJV

Then, John 3:16 http://www.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Jhn&c=3&t=NKJV

Later, we privately worshiped the Lord in our own hearts as we climbed the 50 foot mountain.
Now, as Valentine’s Day approaches, I can’t help but praise God for the gift of His Son and the work He has performed on our hearts. Just three short years ago, our family was broken and headed down a path of destruction, loneliness and sorrow. We were all unbelievers. Now we are saved!
I wonder if perhaps the day that we stood admiring a painted Sea of Galilee, a big red heart, and that glorious white cross was more than just a simple family outing. Maybe the events of that day were orchestrated for us to realize the valley we had crossed and the mountain that our family now stands upon!

Book Reviews for Apologies From a Repentant Christian

The Reviews Are In!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's an inspiring read! December 8, 2011  By Sami's Mama (Arroyo Grande, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Apologies From a Repentant Christian (Paperback)
As you can probably tell, I am not a professional book critic, but I wanted to share my thoughts on the book: I felt the book was a good read. As a Christian, I felt I could relate to some of it, and other parts I was truly inspired with her conflict with her faith in God and what has led her to where she is now. It also got me thinking about my life and how I can strive to do better. My plan is to continue reading her blog and continue to learn from her and her testament with God.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking! November 4, 2011 By Edwina E. Cowgill "book lover" (Georgia) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)

Apologies from a Repentant Christian chronicles the author's "pseudo" Christian life to a life on fire for God and for sharing his Gospel message with everyone she meets. It is refreshingly open and honest as she shares her desires to live a life for God.

On one occasion as the author prayed, she asked God to use her life to glorify Him. Within hours, she was arrested and charged with a felony. That was not exactly what she had expected when she asked God to use her life to bring Him glory. But in her darkest hour, Ms. Young cried out to God and He answered.

With chapter titles such as, "From undeserving to grateful; my apology to God," "From judgmental to merciful," and "From Controlling to trusting God," Ms. Young has written a book that every Christian needs to read. She has set the example by her godly actions, causing this reviewer to stop and think about her own actions.

Apologies from a Repentant Christian is a book that can be read alone, but could easily be adapted into a Bible study for small groups. The official book launch will be on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2011 and all proceeds of book sales on that day will be donated to organizations that provide direct relief to our military.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intensely personal, deeply felt, October 19, 2011 By Kristy Cole - See all my reviews

This review is from: Apologies From a Repentant Christian (Paperback)
This book, like its author is imperfect, but therein lies the charm. The story which belies this book, and the emotions in its complex subtext prove both relatable and heartbreaking.

It is a tale about a woman taken from rock bottom to redemption and the path that led her there; it is more than the sum of its parts, as she also proves to be. Gritty and introspective, it has every bit the pathos of the story of the prodigal son.

A must-read for any Christian who has ever strayed and seen the light.

Apologies From a Repentant Christian

Purchased this out of curiousity, and to be honest, while the first chapter peaked my interest it seemed to drag a bit. If you have the same experience, DON'T GIVE UP ON THIS BOOK! Rather soon, the redemptive qualities of Christ as experienced by the author will both captivate you and inspire you to look inward and do a self anaylsis of your own faith walk. Unless you've led a truly cloistered life, you cannot help but to compare instances of trials in your own life to those of the author. Her story is one that most of us can relate to in one form or another, and she has obviously written from the heart.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read, July 23, 2011 By Thunder - See all my reviews

The author provides her testimony about how God changed her after she gave her life to Christ. She provided numerous examples of how God opened her eyes to some destructive behaviors or personality traits, and provided the grace to change. The first several chapters are specific apologies to those she hurt.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. At first, I thought that the author was too hard on herself, and that maybe she had not actually accepted Christ's forgiveness. But, as I read on, I felt sure that this was not the case. Instead, she wanted to extend her heartfelt apologies to others because Christ had forgiven her.

I especially like the author's testimony because it is a wonderful example of how God can take a horrible experience and turn it around for his glory and for our good. She shows how God used her personal angst and embarrassment to bring her to an understanding that she needed to rely on God in all things.

The book goes on to show how the author began living for Christ on a daily basis. The book contains several vignettes in which the author felt led by the Spirit to express God's love or present the gospel to others. I found the stories to be interesting. They drew me into the book, but I would have liked to have a few more details about some of the examples.

All in all, I enjoyed the book and am left wondering what God will have in store for the author in the future.
